In this era of the quote on quote "Wokeness," people are turning to natural remedies, instead of instinctively reaching for their medicine cabinets. With information at our fingertips like never before, we can discuss and read about the nutritional aspects of food, and learn new things every day, such as how dairy products are so yesterday. Online fitness gurus, trainers, bloggers, and even your favorite celebrities are all about the plant-based lifestyle.

Growing up we are often told by our parents, doctors, and dietitians that cow’s milk is important for muscle growth. The idea of not taking in this product is completely absurd. I am sure everyone has been through that one health class where we were taught about the food pyramid and how cow’s milk is a necessity. But, let us look at what is really in animal dairy and why it may be something you would want to swap.

Milk Allergies

If you are a mother, you should know by now that milk allergies are not just for Europeans or "rich kids"; it is real and can affect everybody. According to a Canadian study, dairy allergies rank the highest on the Top 11 food allergens list and are most common in infants and children.

  The mortality rate in women

In an Observational cohort study done in Sweden, studies show that women who end up taking in more than 3 glasses of milk a day, had almost twice the mortality over 20 years when compared to women who only consume it once a day. So, let's say you drink a glass of milk with your cereal, another with a cup of cookies or cake or sandwich as a snack, and maybe another one in a cup of hot chocolate. As you can see it is very possible to consume more than a glass without really acknowledging it.

Animal Dairy makes you fat and sick.


Researchers from the same study in Sweden were able to prove that liquid dairy products are in fact pro-inflammatory. High milk intake was associated with higher mortality in one cohort of women and in another cohort of men, and with higher fracture incidence in women. higher dairy intake has been linked to increased risk of prostate cancer, and it may trigger type 1 diabetes through a process known as molecular mimicry. The Alternatives


As of late, my sister who used to be on board the dairy milk train has climbed off board and is now all about the vegan milk lifestyle. She is completely obsessed with almond milk, especially the vanilla flavor. As for me, I am head over heels in love with rice milk, quinoa milk, and of course almond milk from my favorite brand Alpro (they got it in chocolate flavor as well!)
